Kahului is not usually considered a tourist destination and often serves as a starting place for people who arrive in Maui. However there are some local attractions that are worth a visit before you explore the rest of the Island with your Kahului car rental.
The Maui Nui Botanical Gardens is a seven acre park displaying most of the flora found on Maui, Molokai, Lana'i and Kaho'olawe; it is a very popular site for visitors in this area. The Maui Arts and Culture Center is also found in Kahului, and is the place to experience Hawaiian visual and performing arts.
With many stores and shopping malls, Kahului is an excellent place to pick up supplies before heading off to explore Maui with your car rental.
